It’s Fathers Day Again

It’s always nice to celebrate someone special in your life, so we look forward to letting the important men in our life how wonderful they are.

Mens cards are always a bit of a challenge, so I tend to custom make for the individual.

This year Bevan will be getting this card.

I found this Digistamp at Bugaboostamps.com, his name is Gus and I just know that Bevan will love the sentiment.

He is coloured with Copic Markers E21, E31, E33, E43, E57, E59, B000, B23, B24, B32, YR000, Y11, Y15, Y17, C0, C1, C3, C5. Seems like quite a list.

Gus is such a cool dude I can see me using more of his images in the future. The shape is cut on an angle with SU adorning edglets and embossed with adorning accents, then mounted over the striped paper which I dirtied up a bit with chocolate chip ink.

Rainbow Brite makes a come back

Kirsten is turning 30. She also loves Rainbow Brite and still has many happy memories around it from her childhood.

We got her a Morphing Rainbow Brite Mug for her birthday and it required a similar themed card to go with it.

So I hunted around for the right picture and came up with this card.

You can not really tell in the photo but the the whole card is covered with shimmer mists to add a bit of soft sparkle to it. I wanted to have a soft rainbow background paper, but I think in the end the soft colouring on the butterfly paper on the background worked well for me.

I uses copics to colour Rainbow Brite and Starlight and I was pretty happy with the end results.

New Crafting Things

Today was my birthday. Among other things I got some wonderful new card making things.

The two butterfly stamps and the butterfly punch are about to be deleted from Stampin Up and since I use alot of butterflies in my card making I decided to put them on my order list before they are gone forever. Lucky for me I have a wonderful husband who went ahead and got them for me for my birthday, along with the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die.

I was especially pleased with this starter kit for parchment craft. I love the beautiful cards I have seen made in this style, and have been talking about giving it a go for sometime now. I suspect that it is not as easy as it looks but we will see. Now that I have something to start with I will be able to find out for myself.

After having gifted me with all the rest of the kits for my gingerbread house, I was not expecting anything more from Maureen, so I was surprised when this arrived in the mail

This was definately my laugh for the day, I have lots of ideas to use this stamp  for her birthday card next month.

So now that I have been completely spoiled I will let you all know how I fair on the parchment crafting, since I am coming into it as a complete and clueless beginner.

A Dandy of a Gift

For Mothers day Sammie gave me a Hero Arts background stamp called Dandelion Frame.  It is very cute and lends itself perfectly as a shadowed foreground. There is a lot of possibilities for what to put in the middle of it.

For this card I decided on these flowers from the retired Echos of Kindness set by Stampin Up.

It has made a nice little note card, but it could also be used as a birthday card. The background was done with distress inks and I coloured the flowers with copic markers. I also added a few dots of stickles to the dandelions just to give it a bit of a lift.

A Hat for an Owl

I have been looking for a long time for a punch or die of a party hat that is the right size to fit on the owl head for the Two Punch Owl by Stampin Up.

On Trade me one day I stumbled upon a border punch by EK Success that has not only a hat but also a balloon, so I took a bit of a punt and clicked on buy now. I am glad that I did because it is the perfect size hat  and balloon to go with both the owl and the bird. Not only that but the hat stamps from the Party Hearty set (also Stampin Up) fit in it almost perfectly.

I used all these things to make a card for my cousins daughter who is turning 5 next month

The grass is a Fiskars punch that i just slipped in behind the cutout oval and the owl wings are punched out with the Two Step Bird Punch. The balloon was coloured with copics and then covered with Glossy Accents so that it is nice and shiny.

Over all I think it is very cute.

Punch and Marker Storage

I know I do not have a lot of stuff yet, but already I was wondering about and new way of storing my punches. My current system was just an old CD holder and the punches were sharing with my inks and my Spellbinders.

I thought is would take much longer to out grow this, but as you can see it is already full.

I also had a chance to get some more copic markers. My current storage for them was just an old oval tin that originally had chocolate fingers in. This was great when I only had about 20 markers, but when I doubled that number it became problematic in more than one way. Firstly they only just fitted in the tin and I still had a couple more to come. Secondly finding the colours I needed for the blending resulted in having to empty out the tin all the time. Something had to be done.

Now like most crafters I would rather spend my budget on crafting toys than storage, so I need a good cheap workable option for both of these things. After searching the web I narrowed the options down to possibly adapting something from an office supplies store, or cutting down some down pipes.

The office supply holder looked so pretty and could work well with a few of them glued together, but was going to cost over $100. More than I wanted to part with on storage.

Standing in the hardware store, we were trying to work out which size downpipe we were going to buy and how we would stack them, when I turned around and found they had rectangle PVC down pipes. Now I am not a square corner girl but even I could see the logic in using this instead of the round pipes. So home it came and we cut and sanded and glued.

Ok so it is less than perfect but it works and is expandable. It looks a bit empty but over time I am sure that I will fill it more. Now while putting this one together I realised that this same concept could solve my punch storage problem.

Now one of the big problems with punches is the weight. I know many people hang them on a door in a shoe holder. The first problem for me here is I do not actually have a door to hang it off. I think even if I did I would not think modern doors would stand up for long to all that extra weight. A punch is heavier than a shoe.

The hardware store had the downpipe in two sizes, so we did the same thing with the larger size pipe.

Cheap and expandable. I like my punches like this because it is no hassle to grab whichever one I want. I can see them all and the one I want does not have others stacked on top. The double layer of PVC is strong and since each on only has to hold up one punch, it should stay nice and sturdy.

Fishing Time

Richard loves to fish so when I found a cheap stamp set about fishing I could not resist.

Again I coloured it with my copics and cut out the man so that I could pop it up a bit. The background is done with Tim Holtz distress inks, Bundled Sage, Walnut Stain and Stormy Sky.

The little sign and the stamp at the bottom were both in the same set. On the inside I found a digi stamp with a funny saying about fishing, and used the same distress inks to colour it.

Very simple but it seems to work for me.

It Begins Again

The month of May brings the first of several birthdays in a row. So until August I need to keep up with all the cards that we will be giving out.

The first is Olivias she is turning 13 this month. Having invested in some more Copic markers I wanted to use them in her card. I found this Digi stamp that just fitted the girl nicely

I also managed to use the new/used background stamp in the blue background. I was very happy to find that one on Trade Me a couple of weeks ago.

With so many cards to do I do not know if I will get them all on the blog but we shall see what we can do.

New Toys for Me

I stumbled onto a the Polkadoodles site and fell in love with there Neighbours series. So much so that I was inspired to put in my first ever overseas stamp order. I was excited when they arrived and I have also invested in some more Copic markers.

The end result is this card

I just adore all the whimsical little houses so I have made this for a house warming card. Funny I have been noticing that although I don””t like green, I seem to use a lot of it in my cards.

The stamp sets have lots of little bits to them so you can build a scene with them to fill whatever occasion. They should get plenty of use.

Boys Toys

Some things are too good not to share…. this card was one of them.

I have been seeing people put Faux metal onto there cards for some time now and kept thinking how good it looked. Well while looking in the Stationary Warehouse I stumbled upon the very embossing folder to make my own. I then hunted down some foil paper and it all arrived just in time to make this card for Josephs Birthday on Sunday.

I am very happy with how this one turned out, the embossing folder is a cuttlebug one called Diamond Plate, which I used on Spellbinders foil paper in metal tones. The cogs are also cut out of the foil paper and are a combination of Tim Holtz mini cogs and Stampin Up cog punch.

The whole thing was mounted onto black cardstock, so I added silver cardstock with some black cogs to decorate. Unfortunately I have managed to take the photo upside down and I dont know how to flip it from here. But still you get the idea, you just need to stand on your head.
